Power resistors

POWER RESISTORS FOR POWER DISTRIBUTION, POWER GENERATION AND INDUSTRY.

We offer the market's widest range of power resistors, from a few watts up to several megawatts. From trams to high-speed trains, stationary motors to nuclear power plants or warships to wind turbines, Cressall has provided the industry with the resistors it needs for more than a hundred years.

Braking resistors – a compact and cost-effective method of controlling braking and absorbing the excess energy produced. We offer both air cooled braking resistors > and water cooled resistors > from 600W up to several hundred kW.

Motor control – wound rotor motor for slip ring AC motors, starting resistors > for DC motors and resistors for Star-Delta starters, closed transition.

Neutral earthing resistors/Neutral grounding resistors – used to protect transformers, generators and distribution networks by limiting the fault current in the event of a earth fault. Neutral earthing resistors/Neutral grounding resistors > are based on a standard construction with large flexibility for different installations.

Earthing systems – the earthing resistors combined with a single phase transformer or a Zn transformer.

Load banks – suitable for regular testing of backup power and UPS facilities. Reliable and secure access to electrical power is fundamental to modern society. After all, power outages occur, then it is important that the backup power works. See our range of load banks >.

Traction resistors – we mainly work with actors in the maintenance of railway vehicles in the Nordics, upgrading different resistors to meet today’s demands. Explore our traction resistors >.

Filter resistors – harmonics and disturbance can be limited by different types of filters, where a filter resistor is included as an important component. Filter resistor > can be used in applications such as:

  • SVC - Static Var Compensation
  • MSCDN compensation
  • HVDC transmissions
  • Railway system supply stations

Regardless of the application, long lifespan and a minimum of maintenance, have the highest priority.

Cressall power and resistance calculator - a time saving calculation tool!

Cressall's power and resistance calculator is based on Ohm's law and Joule's law and describes relationships between the following electrical quantities:

  • Voltage
  • Current
  • Resistance
  • Effect

The calculator is based on Ohm's law (Voltage = Current x Resistance) and Joule's  law (Power = Voltage x Current). Application makes it possible to lock one parameter, enter value for another, and quickly see how other parameters are affected.

The app is available in several language versions, Swedish, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese, and can be downloaded for free for iPhone/iPad.
